Job Description – Organist and/or Pianist
PURPOSE: To accompany the pastor and congregation so that Augustana’s worship
services are conducted to the glory of God.
REPORTABILITY: To the Church Council, with the supervision of the Worship & Music
Committee.
ABILITIES:
- Experience in playing organ or piano or be willing to take lessons for proficiency.
- Familiarity with the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, With One Voice, All Creation
Sings & Gather hymnals.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Meet with the pastor to plan services and select hymns.
- Play organ or piano at all the regularly scheduled services (Including Holidays
including Easter, Lent and Christmas), with Sundays off to be negotiated. This
will be reviewed annually. - Weddings & Funerals – The organist or pianist’s availability to play at these
additional services should be arranged directly by the families involved, who will
also be responsible to pay an honorarium. - Be a member of the Worship & Music Committee & attend monthly meetings.
- Perform such other duties as may pertain to this position, from time to time.
- Confer with the Worship & Music Committee and the Pastor if you are going to
be gone for a scheduled service, to arrange a substitute organist/pianist and to
acquaint them with our instruments, if needed. - Any repairs or maintenance to organ or piano should be directed to the Worship
& Music committee.
COMPENSATION:
$120 per service. (12 – 15 Services per Year)
